Born in New York in 1917. Completed four years of high school and was married at the time of his enlistment on April 5, 1943 at Newark, New Jersey. Joined the 10th Mountain Division while it was engaged in mountain and winter warfare training at Camp Hale, Colorado. Assigned to the 86th Infantry Regiment, Company B, and later served with the 85th Infantry Regiment, Company B and with the Headquarters Company of the First Battalion.
